2018 Report

2018 saw numerous new developments for Grounded Curiosity with the intent of continuing to grow and expand our network and our capability. These developments included the following:

1. The Inaugural Grounded Curiosity Award. One $2,500 professional development grant was awarded to Greg Rowlands for his article ‘Shades of Grozny: Anti-Tank Drones and the Yom Kippur Effect’, while James Easton and James Kingham shared the second grant between them for their respective article, ‘Words with Power – Counter-Arguments and Competition’ and ‘The Future is Now: A Path Forward in Manned-Unmanned Teaming’.

We received over 20 high quality submissions and intend to run a similar competition in 2019.

2. Five Eyes ‘Track II’ Network. We began advocating for the Five Eyes ‘Track II’ network in an ongoing effort by crowd-sourcing resources and opportunities for professional development and debate. We received numerous email suggestions to assist in continuing to build the network map and rebased an updated version in late 2018.

3. Associate Editors. We appointed six Associate Editors to serve as the the people-interface of Grounded Curiosity in 2018. In 2019, we hope to retain at least some of these dedicated and passionate individuals, and continue growing our team. We currently stretch from Puckapunyal, the Eastern seaboard to Darwin, the United Kingdom and the United States.

4. Grounded Curiosity App. We released the much-anticipated app to simplify your reading experience and interactions with Grounded Curiosity. Search for ‘Grounded Curiosity’ or click on the links to download: Apple App Store and Google Play.

5. Contributing Authors. We acknowledged six Contributing Authors who wrote three or more articles in 2018, and will look to similarly acknowledge prolific contributing authors in 2019.

6. Writing Guidelines. We released a soldier’s five for prospective Grounded Curiosity contributors. It can be found here, and details the requirements for submitting to Grounded Curiosity.

Download our Information Pack for further information. Questions and submissions can be emailed to groundedcuriosity@gmail.com. Thanks for your support and good luck with your Grounded Curiosity Award submissions!

Many thanks for an incredible 2018 and we look forward to what we can achieve in 2019 — from the Editors, James and Clare, and Associate Editors: Nick A, Chris, Ana, David, Cameron and Nick W.
